Microsoft has confirmed that the Windows 11 January 2026 update has caused several issues for users, prompting the company to release emergency fixes for some of the most serious problems. The update, delivered as part of January’s Patch Tuesday, affected multiple system components.
One of the most widely reported issues involved Remote Desktop connections, where users experienced broken credential prompts when attempting to connect to other systems. Microsoft has released an out-of-band update to address this problem on affected Windows 11 versions.
Another confirmed bug caused some systems to fail to shut down properly after installing the update. According to Microsoft, a separate fix has been issued to resolve the shutdown issue on certain Windows 11 builds.
Despite these fixes, some issues remain unresolved, including reports of Outlook Classic crashes and black screen delays during startup. Microsoft says it is continuing to investigate these remaining problems and will provide additional updates as needed.
